DESCRIPTION:Understanding the difference between operations and policy is key to making fast and good decisions. The idea in sociocracy is to empower operational decisions (so they can be made by anyone who is authorized) and to make policy decisions to guide and improve those operational decisions. SUMMARY:Sociocratic governance agreements
DESCRIPTION:Every formal implementation requires a governance agreement document – a description of the governance method in their context. Oftentimes\, it’s the approval of this document that constitutes the formal adoption of sociocracy. We have several sample governance agreements that groups can take and adopt. \nIn this workshop\, we will walk you through the sample governance agreement for a cohousing community (which\, for the most part\, will apply to many other contexts as well). You can ask questions along the way! We hope that many can go adapt their documents after this webinar. \nWorkshop presenter and SoFA team member Jerry Koch-Gonzalez was part of the author team of several sociocratic communities revising this document.\nNote: there some overlap but a difference between governance agreements and by-laws. DESCRIPTION:Jan 15\, Jan  22\, Jan 29\, 2020\, Wednesdays\, each 1pm Eastern/18 UTC/19:00 Central Europe. \nThis is a 3-session introduction class to facilitation and decision making in sociocracy. It covers basic concepts with many examples. All sessions are participatory with time for questions and answers. The classes will be taught by Ted Rau\, co-founder and staff member of Sociocracy For All. \n\nSession 1: Preparing agendas that work; rounds\nSession 2: Clear decisions and addressing objections\nSession 3: What if we have to change our plans? Time-keeping\, emotional distress\, conflict in meetings.\n\nAll events will be held on Zoom (a video platform). SUMMARY:Is sociocracy teal?
DESCRIPTION:Where does sociocracy fit when it comes to teal organizations (a la reinventing organizations)?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMany of us have been and continue to be inspired by Reinventing Organizations by Frederic Laloux. While there is reference to Holacracy in Reinventing Organizations\, there is not much direct reference to sociocracy. So\, where does sociocracy fit in? \nSociocracy is certainly a self-management system of peer relationships\, giving people (both teams and individuals) autonomy in their domains\, leading to a system of intentionally distributed power in the organization. Furthermore\, other features of teal organizations include “inner wholeness” (being complete human beings\, not only our professional aspects) and “evolutionary purpose” (giving organizations a chance to evolve like a natural organism). Where does sociocracy fulfill the characteristics\, where doesn’t it? \nThis is not a black-and-white topic as not everyone assesses the concepts or the evidence similarly. We hope for an enlightening event intended to give an impulse to the conversation. To get us started\, Ted Rau from Sociocracy For All will talk about his view while highlighting where people might have other opinions.
