Parveen Sherif

Parveen has always believed that you can never bring out the best in someone through fear. She wonders if that is why she spent her middle to high school years at a J. Krishnamoorti school in South India. Parveen was born in Hyderabad, raised in Madras and now lives and works in Bangalore – all cities in South India. Parveen has worn many working hats. She managed to break from the shackles of her family business and decided to work for an environmental non-profit long after she started donating to them. At the non-profit she was their human resource professional and then went on to consult for other social impact organisations. Over the last 3 years, she has developed a growing interest in organization theory, design and governance. Her desire to explore dynamic organizational governance in depth was born from learning about Agile methodology and reading Frederic Laloux’s now famous book – Reinventing Organisations. She began to see how non-profits in India could benefit significantly from applying the principles of Agile, Sociocracy, Teal and other governance systems. Her introduction to Sociocracy happened by chance and the SoLT training she did in 2017 convinced her that Sociocracy provides a good enough framework for an organization to build its governance system. She believes that most non-profits at least intend to value transparency, equivalence and effectiveness but rarely know how to design these into their governance systems. She hopes that the in-depth training in the Academy will allow her to spread Sociocracy amongst non-profits and schools in India.
Parveen is an avid reader, consuming blogs and books on organization design and theory, philosophy, psychology, physical movement and crime fiction. She also has a deep interest in all things fitness especially mindful movement systems like yoga and somatics. She’s come to believe that moving well is the key to being well. She’s extremely grateful for the presence of yoga in her life.
